The 2024 St John’s Day Supper was held at the Royal Northern & University Club. This dinner was chaired by Right Worshipful Master Bro. Paul Whitwell, with invaluable support from the Master of Ceremonies Bro. Alistair McIntosh PM.
The evening was initiated with a grace before a splendid five-course meal, setting the tone for a night steeped in tradition and companionship. A starter of Pate Maison, followed by a surprise haggis to highlight our dinner’s coinciding with Burns Night. This was introduced with an excellent “Address to a Haggis” given by Bro. Stuart Young, bringing the dinner into a true cultural experience.
The event featured exceptional speeches and distinctive talks after the meal, starting with a toast to the King and the Craft, leading into a toast to the Lodge of Aberdeen No.1ter by Provincial Grand Master Bro. Michael Taylor, replied to by Worshipful Master Paul Whitwell.
A short talk about the psychological significance and the importance of symbolism and ritual within Freemasonry was given by Bro. Dr. Matthew Siami, highlighting how the Craft’s most important element is useful not only as part of the Masonic repertoire, but can also benefit individuals who meaningfully engage in becoming the symbols of Morality and Brotherhood.
This was followed by a toast to the visiting brethren and guests by Bro. Michael Reid, replied to by Bro. Roger Legge of St. Nicholas University Lodge No.93.
Finally, Bro. Geddie Hay led the toast of Bon Accord, followed up by the Tylers Toast, given by Bro. John Deary, Bro. Rory Forbes and Bro. David Livingstone.
